Gary Potts, Classified Senate President, and Lynn Wright facilitated a meeting for “graveyard shift” Facilities staff. Gary and Lynn provided an overview of the Leadership Journey curriculum and asked participants to share their ideas for creating a more collaborative and collegial environment. They also found time for some armchair yoga.

PCC’s annual Classified Day was a great opportunity to continue the Leadership Journey. Morning and afternoon sessions were held to engage classified staff in the college’s transformation process and to provide them with strategies and tools to promote and facilitate communication. Participants also practiced invigorating yoga moves, led by local yoga instructor David Wells.

PCC’s Leadership Journey continued with a group of faculty, staff, administrators, and students. They met to continue the discussion of the college’s transformation into a 21st century global community college and to develop a vision for that transformation. Peter Gaarn led a day-long session for the Academic and Classified Senates. Participants developed strategies for communicating effectively, discussed the role of leadership in managing change, and practiced their new skills by discussing the issues surrounding keeping or cutting Winter Intersession.

Dave Douglass and Nika Hogan facilitated a follow-up meeting for administrators. Attendees spent time in their “coaching trios,” discussed the concept of a 21st century global community college, and were given a video assignment.

PCC’s Leadership Journey began after the holiday break with two cohorts of administrators each working intensely for two weeks. Peter Gaarn and Therese Lenk, consultants from the Piras Group, co-facilitated the events with Dave Douglass (Dean of Natural Sciences and Management Association President), Beverly Tate (Dean of Kinesiology, Health, and Athletics), Nika Hogan (English), Shelagh Rose (Languages), and Lynn Wright (Academic Senate Faculty Development Committee Chair). Participants discussed the college’s new EMP, developed strategies for communicating effectively, and explored the role of leadership in managing change.
